SPINNING WHEEL PRESENTS A WORLD OF NEW SIKH FILMS

Hollywood, CA  -  The 2007 Hollywood Spinning Wheel Film Festival being held this year at the Writers and Guild Theatre, Beverly Hills, California on Saturday, November 17, 2007, is screening a whole slate of new films that explore the Sikh universe.

Cluster Four, which will begin at 8.30 pm on November 17, includes these three extraordinary films:

“ SEWA: Paris to Tapovan”,  which documents Sardar Bhagwant Singh Dalawari's decision to give up his career as a diplomat, and move from France,  to a remote place called Tapovan in central India to dedicate the rest of his life to serving leprosy patients.

“Seeds of Life” is a film on the farmers of Punjab in crisis: It examines the spate of suicides by farmers across India, including Punjab, which has turned into epidemic proportions. It also talks about the efforts of environmentalist Vandana Shiva to draw attention to the rights of farmers and the state of Indian agriculture today.

“Division of Hearts”  is on the tragic Partition of Punjab and India in 1947 causing the loss of a million lives, and the displacement of millions more. Reverberations from that cataclysmic event continue to be felt today.

The Spinning Wheel Film Festival is a showcase of outstanding Sikh films, featuring a diverse mix of genres including documentary, independent, foreign and narrative films. The Festival brings together filmmakers from across the globe to screen their films and discuss their work with both Sikh and non-Sikh film-goers. As an “emerging cinema” organization, the SWFF has quickly grown in both size and reputation, and is now well-established as the pre-eminent film festival of its kind in the world
