The Spinning Wheel Film Festival (SWFF) Hollywood celebrates the stories of Sikhs worldwide, and brings diverse interpretations of their culture, identity and history to the screen.
This year's festival kicks off on Nov 16 at the Writers and Guild Theatre, Beverly Hills, California.
One of the documentaries being screened at the festival will be “Golden Kitchen” a film on the concept of Langar, the free kitchen at the Golden Temple, Amritsar, India - the highest seat of spiritual authority in Sikhdon - where tens of thousands are fed free everyday, 24/7.
Filmmakers Valerie Berteau and Philippe Wites were inspired by their visit to the Golden Temple and have produced an award winning documentary. It captures the extraordinary feat of logistics, commitment and devotion involved in serving meals to forty to fifty thousand people round the clock every day. On Sundays, sometimes, the number exceeds one hundred thousand!
This year's Spinning Wheel Film Festival is showcasing films which span all genres, giving the audience a chance to view, learn and chat about engaging and exciting films made for, by or about Sikhs.
The word 'Sikh' literally means a student or a learner, a seeker of truth. Sikhism is the fifth largest world religion, with over 25 million adherents around the globe. Approximately a million make their home here as proud Sikh-Americans.
Film is arguably the most compelling of all mediums, and we have made a sincere attempt to harness its power to tell our stories from our perspective. This is your opportunity to admire the work of your fellow Sikhs from all over the world. Share this treasure with your friends, neighbors, school teachers, and community members in a fun environment, and introduce them to our way of life. With this objective in mind, we are offering a very affordable price of $15-$20 for each cluster, or an appealing package price of $50 for all four clusters.
We urge you to get the maximum value from this Festival to entertain and educate others around you, and share a good time with friends and family.
